Where a test goes

Five steps are yours, the same five you'll see in the app. Scribble reads and grades in between.

Routing slipOne per test, every class on itUnit 4 Test
  1. Set upYouUpload the blank test and your answer key. Scribble fills in the questions and rubric; you check them and say how you grade.
  2. UploadYouScan every class at the copier, in any order. Names are covered on your computer before anything is sent.
  3. ReadScribblePuts every page with its student and reads each answer.
  4. TeachYouScore a few answers Scribble picks from your classes, so it learns where you draw the line.
  5. GradeScribbleGrades every class with what it learned from you.
  6. CheckYouLook only at the answers it wasn't sure of, from all your classes in one pile.
  7. GradesYouChange any score, curve the test if you want, and export the grades.

See it in the app. Click through these five steps with a sample class, about three minutes.

Graded the way you'd grade it

Write how you grade in a few sentences, the way you'd explain it to a new colleague. Every score shows the rubric line behind it and the words that earned it.

Q14. How does the cell membrane control what enters the cell?

6 points · sample answer
Student's answer, as written

It's a phospholipid bilayer. The heads like water and the tails don't, so the tails point in. Bigger stuff gets in thru the protein channels.

Names stay on your computer

Before a page leaves your computer, Scribble covers the student's name. The AI sees the answer and a paper number, not the name.*

* If a student writes their name inside an answer, Scribble can't cover it.

About
Why I'm building Scribble

I grew up watching my parents grade.

I'm the son of two educators. Growing up, I saw how much of their time went to grading after the school day was over. Many nights and weekends went to the part of the job every teacher dreads.

One day my dad and I talked about what it would take to get his time back, without changing the way he grades. Scribble came out of that conversation. It grades the way he would, and he always has the last word.

I'm building it for him, and for every teacher whose evenings disappear into grading tests.

What teachers ask first

How accurate is it?

We're still measuring that with teachers, so there's no number yet. Every score shows why it was given, and anything Scribble isn't sure of comes to you.

Which tests work?

Your own printed tests: multiple choice, true or false, short answer and free response, on one page or several. No bubble sheets.

What scanner do I need?

Anything that makes a PDF, including the copier at school. Scan a whole class at once, in any order.

Do students ever see Scribble?

No. It's only for teachers. Students get their tests back from you, the same as always.

Does it work with Google Classroom?

Not yet. For now you export your grades and add them to your gradebook.

What does it cost?

Pricing isn't set yet. People on the waitlist hear first.
